Curly Locks Cactus - Epiphyllum
October 24, 2018
We have recently had an almighty delivery of plants for our Plant Room at Rocket. The Epiphyllum caught my eye with its bright green, twisting stems!
Once I started researching this plant I found out some strange but interesting information about them. They produce 3-Inch wide white flowers with 6-inch long tubes that open at night. This is because in nature it is pollinated by moths and bats!! These night animals can easily see the big white blooms which appear.
Oval, bright pink seedy fruits form once blooms are pollinated. These fruits are juicy and edible.
When looking after these plants the biggest danger is overwatering. The cactus needs to have moist roots at all times but they should not be sitting in a dish of water. Make sure the top 1/3 of soil is dry before watering. If you find a spot in your home we're is seems happy be sure to leave it there, as they do not like change.
Come and see us to grab one of these interesting plants, and take a look at our amazing plant room!
