Bonsai Trees

We are happy to now be stocking the cutest little Bonsai trees 🌳

A Bonsai tree is a natural tree form in miniature, it’s an art form that has been practiced in Japan and China for centuries. With the right care your Bonsai will remain healthy, beautiful and miniature for years to come.

In the winter your Bonsai ideally wants to be in the sunniest place possible. A south facing window sill is perfect but avoid hot objects like radiators and electricals.
In the summer they still love sunshine but don’t want to overheat. A spot with good daylight but not direct sunlight is key or somewhere with sun only in the morning or evening.

It’s really important to not to forget to water your Bonsai! Water it when the soil looks dry but you don’t want to wait until the soil has dried out completely. If the soil looks dark and feels wet don’t water. If the Bonsai is in full sun it may even want to be watered everyday, it’s a good idea to check on it every morning and evening so you can adjust your watering regime accordingly. Water should be poured until it begins running out the holes in the bottom of the pot.

Feed them with general purpose liquid feed at half the recommended strength. This needs to be done about once a month during the winter and once every 7-14 days during spring, summer and autumn.

To keep your bonsai miniature it will need to be pruned regularly. Once new shoots have grown to about 2-3cm carefully cut back to the first pair of new leaves. If your bonsai gets out of shape, Spring is the best time to hard prune , remove all those straggly shoots and initially the bonsai may look a little bare but with just a few weeks it should be covered in new young shoots.
